Exile in Faith

Memory Verse: “I called my Son out of Egypt.” Hosea 11:1
Introduction

  • One of the consequences of standing firm in faith is being exiled. Throughout the history of mankind, many righteous men of God have been exiled because of their faith.
  • Today, we are going to see the life of few righteous poeple who have been subjected to exile for the sake of righteousness.

The Lesson

  • The first cause of exile was sin. Adam and Eve were exiled from the Garden of Eden because they transgressed the commandment of God. /Gen 2 & 3/. Even though the first cause of exile was sin, many were subject to exile afterwards because of righteousness.
  • The second month of the Ethiopian month is a period when we remember the exile of the Lord Jesus Christ, and the Virgin Mary into Egypt. The Lord’s exile was for the sake of our salvation.
  • The Virgin Mary was subject to exile even before she was born. Her parents were exiled to Lebanon while she was conceived and she was born in exile. /Matthew 2/
  • Satan caused the first exile of mankind by deceiving Adam and Eve into transgressing God’s commandment, but later, he caused the exile of the righteous to prevent righteousness itself and also salvation. Satan, through Herod, caused the exile of the Virgin Mary with her beloved Son Jesus Christ. But it was all part of God’s plan for our salvation, and Satan couldn’t prevent our ultimate salvation.
  • Joseph was exiled into Egypt because his brothers were envied him and wanted to harm him. But God did not forsake him. Joseph ended up exiled into Egypt, and later became the second most powerful man in Egypt after the king. Because of him, his brothers who left him in the wilderness to die, were saved from a famine that spread throughout the earth. /Gen 37 – 46/
  • Moses was exiled from the palace of Pharaoh, but in His exile, He spoke to God on a mountain, and returned to the Pharaoh to lead the Israelites out of Egypt and a life of slavery, into their land of promise. /Exodus 1-3/
  • During the first year after the resurrection of Jesus Christ, many Christians were exiled and scattered out of Jerusalem, but they scattered preaching the Word of the Lord Jesus Christ. /Acts 8/

Conclusion: Those who are exiled for the sake of righteousness and keep their faith in the Lord God always get comfort in Him. When Joseph was exiled into Egypt, He still was faithful in the Lord God, therefore the Lord God was with Him in exile. Moses was born in exile, but remained faithful, and was exiled from the palace of Pharaoh because he chose to be exiled with his people than live alone in comfort and vanity. But, the Lord God appeared to him during his exile and sent him back to Egypt to lead His people out of the bondage of slavery. The disciples did not despair when they were exiled because of their faith in Christ, instead they saw it as an opportunity to spread the word of God.
Even the blessed Virgin Mary was exiled from the moment of her conception, and was born in exile, but her parents did not waver from their promise to give her to serve the Lord God after she was born. She remained pure and righteous all her life. After she gave birth to the Lord of lords, and to the Kind of kings, she was exiled to Egypt with her beloved Son – our Lord and savior Jesus Christ. But during her exile, she visited Ethiopia and received the children of Ethiopia as her children.
In His exile, the Lord blessed the life of righteousness in exile.
