The New Testament

Memory Verse: “But these are written that you may believe that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of God, and that believing you might have life through His name.” John 20:31

Introduction
•    The New Testament is a collection of 27 books that were written after the advent of our Lord Jesus Christ.
•    In this lesson, we will see the general contents of the New Testament, their category, and the authors.

The Lesson
•    The New Testament consists of 35 books.
•    These books can be categorized into:
1. Gospels
2. History
3. Epistles
4. Prophecy
5. Canonical Books
•    The Gospels primarily contain a history of the genealogy, the birth, the teachings, the suffering, the death and the resurrection of Jesus Christ.
1.  Gospel means good news.
2. The Gospels are the first four books of the New Testament. They are: The Gospels of Matthew, Mark, Luke, and John.
3. All these are eyewitnesses of the works and miracles of Jesus Christ. Matthew and John are among the first twelve disciples of the Lord Jesus Christ.
4. The Gospels  tell about the fulfillment of the prophecies in the Old Testament.
5. Our forefathers in the Old Testament received a temporal inheritance, but in the New Testament, through our Lord Jesus Christ, we received a promise of eternal inheritance–the Kingdom of God.
•    The historical book of the New Testament is the Book of Acts, which talks about the events that followed the resurrection and ascension of our Lord Jesus Christ, the works of the Apostles, and the conversion and ministry of St. Paul.
•    Epistles are collection of letters written by the Apostles. There are 14 epistles by St. Paul, one by St. James, one by St. Jude, two by St. Peter, and three by St. John.
•    The New Testament also consists of 6 Canonical Books that mainly contain the teachings of our Lord Jesus Christ between His resurrection and His ascension.

Conclusion: The New Testament is a collection of writings that include the Gospels, history, epistles and canonical books. All the books of the New Testament are written after the advent of the Lord Jesus Christ. In the New Testament, we learn about the birth, ministry, suffering, death, resurrection and ascension of the Lord Jesus Christ. All these events in the life of the Lord Jesus Christ were foretold in the Old Testament by the prophets. We also learn about the covenant of an eternal inheritance in the New Testament.
