The Message on the Mount of Olives

Memory Verse: “He who endures to the end shall be saved.” /Matt 24:13/

Introduction
•    Mount of Olives is a mountain on which Jesus Christ has taught about the end of the world and the mountain where He ascended to heaven from.
•    Gathering once at the Mount of Olives, the disciples asked the Lord Jesus Christ about the end of the world saying, “Tell us, when will these things be? And what will be the sign of Your coming, and of the end of the age?” /Matt. 24:3/. Then, the Lord Jesus Christ told them about His second coming and many other examples of the Kingdom.
•    Today’s lesson is going to focus on the Lord’s teaching on the Mount of Olives.

The Lesson
•    The Lord Jesus Christ told the disciples that no one knows of the time of the end, but that there will be great tribulations before the end. These are some of the signs He said will come before the end:
•    There will be “abomination of desolation” standing in the Holy Places.
•    There are going to be many false christs and false prophets, who deceive many by great signs and wonders.
•    The sun and the moon will seize to give off their lights, and the stars will fall from heaven.
•    After telling the disciples of the signs that will come before the end of the ages, he continued to teach about the necessary virtues that we all should observe so that we may be worthy of His kingdom when He comes for judgment:
•    We must be loyal: Our Lord Jesus Christ taught that blessed is the servant whom his master finds fulfilling his duties. We are the servants and He is the Master. /Matt 24:45/
•    We must be prepared: The Lord Jesus Christ taught us to be prepared in the story of the Ten Virgins who went to meet the bridegroom with their lamps. Five had extra oil for their lamps, but the other five didn’t. So, when the bridegroom was late, they ran out of oil and had to go out to get more oil for their lamps. But while they were gone, the bridegroom came, and only the five who were prepared with extra oil received him and entered with him. The bridegroom is a symbol of the Lord Jesus Christ. The lamp is a symbol of faith, and the oil is a symbol of good deeds. We should have good deeds in faith to receive Him. /Matt 25:1-13/
•    We must be good stewards: We are stewards of different spiritual gifts. The Lord God made us stewards so that we can transform and multiply our spiritual gifts and good deeds. He taught us of such stewardship in the story of the good servant who received and doubled the talents he received from his master. /Matt. 25:14-30/
•    After these teachings, the Lord Jesus Christ finally told the disciples of the last judgment.  /Matt.  25:31-46/
•    He will come on the Mount of Olives on judgment day, and he will say to the righteous:  “Come, you blessed of My Father, inherit the kingdom prepared for you from the foundation of the world…”  To the sinners, he will say: “Depart from Me, you cursed, into the everlasting fire prepared for the devil and his angels…”

Conclusion: The Lord Jesus Christ taught the disciples about the end of the world on the Mount of Olives. He told them of the signs that will come before the end, and the virtues that we should be prepared with in order to be worthy to hear the joyful words of eternal judgment. “Come, you blessed of My Father, inherit the kingdom that was prepared for you from the foundation of the world.”
